AT HOME IN THIS WORLD
"Carroll Swenson-Roberts creates lush ,verdant worlds populated by women and woodland creatures in complex, highly-detailed paintings and drawings for her exhibit "At Home In This World".Walking plays a central role in Swenson-Roberts paintings and drawing practices both as inspiration for her depictions of natural landscapes and through the physical application of paint and pencil over large stretches of paper.In her process, she creates richly saturated color environments that are built up slowly to reveal new patterns as one mark effects the other on the paper.Her process conjures up woods ,grasslands, and hills filled with delicate leaves, branches and grass blades. Women Cats and Hats
Included in the show "At Home in this world "are 24 paintings of women some with cats, some with hats ,some with both painted in acrylic on vinyl wallpaper sample. They were my Covid work. The paned window in each piece is in my studio. The women came from photos and books that I have in my studio. The Hat is giant Hat sculpture you can see from my studio.It is off of highway 30 east in Dallas . The Cats are just because every woman needs a cat at some point in her life. I had originally shown these mostly 8"x10" paintings in the panes of my studio window. During covid people could see them without coming inside.Now they will keep me company in my new studio around the corner.
